Cave and Karst Mineral Water
Overview. From ancient times, people have discovered that water rich in minerals can assist in preventing health issues and aiding in recovery. Infused with natural goodness from beneath the earth’s surface, karst and spring water is the main factor in many traditional spas where bathing for health, balneotherapy, is common.
Cave and Karst water contains an abundance of minerals which it obtains as it is filtered through layers of rock. As the water permeates through these rocks, minerals such as calcium, sulphur, and magnesium are dissolved into it.
The mineral properties of cave and spring water vary from region to region depending on the dominant type of bedrock and the minerals present. For this reason each type of water has different therapeutic properties which is determined based on mineral composition.
Essential Minerals. Limestone (CaCO3) is the primary bedrock in which caves form around the world. It facilitates the formation of Karst. This rock is incredibly rich in calcium. The absorption of CALCIUM from a mineral water is comparable to and in some cases better than the calcium obtained from consuming dairy products. Mineral water helps support healthy bones and decrease risks of bone diseases including osteoporosis.
Much of the cave-containing limestone bedrock in Pennsylvania is also rich in IRON. Bathing in or applying iron rich mineral water is helpful to people suffering from iron- deficiency anemia or excessive mental fatigue and stress related conditions.
MANGANESE, another common mineral found in Pennsylvanian bedrock, is considered an essential nutrient because the body requires it to function properly. It is a powerful antioxidant that seeks out the free radicals in the human body and neutralizes these damaging particles, thereby preventing many of the potential dangers they cause.
Countries with high SULPHUR intake are among the healthiest in the world! Sulphur is the third most abundant mineral in the body. It is critical to many of the body’s biological processes and is essential for maintaining everything from youthful skin and joints to a healthy digestive system. Sulphur deficiency can lead to skeletal and muscle disorders that are accompanied by pain and inflammation.
Methods and usage. Inhaling cave and spring mineral water vapor can be an effective treatment for asthma, sinus problems, allergies, and other respiratory problems. Water vapor is also a medically-approved method, as many doctors often recommend humidifiers or diffusion for individuals with asthma and chronic sinusitis.
